Variuos reports from inside Iranian prisons in the past few weeks, the issuance of death sentences for political prisoners, and the execution of some of the political prisoners in the past few days, all indicate an increased level of repression by the Islamic Republic against the political prisoners. Many political prisoners are facing extremely hostile circumstances. As many of you are aware, during the recent months the Islamic Republic in continuation of its heinous repressive policies has incarcerated many activists from labor, women, students and civil rights movements, keeping them all under harsh conditions in its medieval jails.

All these increased pressures on the political prisoners, torturing them, keeping them in jail without any charges, handing out heavy sentences, and execution of political prisoners, are all used as a tool to intimidate the weary masses and their voice of protest echoed in factories, schools and universities.

The capitalistic Islamic Republic which tops world execution list, continues its criminal policy of execution by justifyting it as a “deterrent against expansion of crime”. While, the Islamic Republic has always used execution as a tool against liberated and protesting masses. This most criminal regime during the months of July and August of 1989 executed more than 5000 political prisoners, from all different tendencies. After 22 years, this crime which will not be rforgotten for ages to come, still stands out as a condemnation of both the ruling faction of Islamic Republic and the Reformers (during who's reign the 1989 Massacre occurred).

If the regime is increasing the pressure on political prisoners to intimidate the masses outside of jails, if the regime due to its apprehension of an increasing level of masses protest incarcerates our children, if the regime in fear of an expansion of workers struggles incarcerates labor activists as a preemptive measure, if it aims to silence the voices for equality and freedom by flogging, torture and jail sentences, the necessity of defending political prisoners, and forcing the Islamic Republic to retreat demands an even more united and extended struggle. The Islamic Republic could be pressured only through constant united and extended mass protests.

Workers! Militant women and men! Organizations and institutions defending political prisoners! Revolutionary and communist organizations and parties!

The abroad committee of the Communist Party of Iran welcomes the January 29th Global Day of Action in Defense of Political Prisoners and Against Execution in Iran. The actions on this day are held in big city centers around the world or in front of the embassies and consulates of the Islamic regime. Our committees around the world will actively take part in the activities of this global campaign and in cooperation with other associations, institutions and communist and revolutionary parties and organizations will do all necessary measures to make this day a successful and glorious day.

We on our part expect all revolutionary people, workers advocacy institutions and communist parties and organizations to join this united struggle in defense of Iranian political prisoners and for the abolishment of death penalty.

Free all political prisoners!
